Vatican Tickets: Official Site, Price and Rules
Non-refundable, one day only. Book it like it matters.
Finding the official Vatican Museums website is the easy part. The harder part is booking a ticket you cannot refund, for one fixed day, and building the rest of your Rome day around it.
Last verified: 21 October 2026
The official Vatican Museums ticket costs €20, or €25 booked online at tickets.museivaticani.va (€20 plus a €5 booking fee). It includes the Museums and the Sistine Chapel. Tickets cannot be refunded, are valid only on the day issued, and the Museums are closed on Sundays except the last Sunday of the month.
What Is the Official Vatican Tickets Website?
The only official Vatican Museums ticket portal is tickets.museivaticani.va. Similar-looking websites may be resellers charging more for tickets, tours or extra services.
Check the official price before you pay anyone else.
How Much Do Vatican Museums Tickets Cost?
Full price is €20 at the ticket office, or €25 with an online "Skip the Line" booking on the official site. Reduced tickets for eligible students cost €10, plus the same €5 fee online.
"Skip the Line" refers to the ticket-office queue. It does not remove security checks, crowds inside or the cost of arriving late.
The price is clear. The real cost is choosing the wrong day or time.
Four Rules That Catch Visitors Out
- No refunds. Vatican Museums tickets cannot be refunded and are valid only on the day issued.
- Closed on Sundays. Except the last Sunday of the month: free entry, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, last entry 12:30 pm.
- The dress code is enforced. No sleeveless or low-cut tops, shorts above the knee, miniskirts or hats.
- Large bags stay behind. Backpacks, luggage and large umbrellas go to the free cloakroom before you enter.
Opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, with last entry at 6:00 pm. St. Peter's Basilica is not automatically part of the visit.
Which Time Slot, and What After?
The time you book shapes the crowd you meet, and how you move on to St. Peter's afterwards decides whether you start again from the beginning.
Which slot to choose, and how to move from the Museums to St. Peter's the smart way, are inside The Senate Vault™.
