Do You Need Tickets for the Trevi Fountain?
The Trevi Fountain is still free to see. The €2 ticket applies only if you enter the controlled area closest to the basin.

Non-residents need a €2 Trevi Fountain ticket to enter the inner perimeter. You do not need a ticket to see or photograph the fountain from outside the controlled area. The fee changes your proximity—not whether the monument remains visible.
Is the Trevi Fountain Free?
Yes. The Trevi Fountain remains visible for free from outside the monumental area, including after controlled visiting hours.
The paid Trevi Fountain entry introduced on 2 February 2026 applies to the internal perimeter beside the basin. It does not turn Piazza di Trevi into a ticketed attraction.
“Trevi Fountain ticket” can describe closer access—or an unrelated tour. Those are not the same purchase.
The Trevi Fountain Ticket Mistake
Search results can mix the official €2 admission with walking tours, attraction bundles and third-party experiences. A higher price does not automatically mean better access, a quieter visit or a reserved moment.
